Alumni Frequently Asked Questions

We are excited about your interest in reapplying to teach with VIF!

How do VIF alumni reapply?
The first step in reapplying to VIF is to submit a new online application. Once you have completed the application, we will send you an email detailing the alumni reapplication process.

The next step is a review of your past exchange participation with VIF. Once we have reviewed your past participation and think you are ready for the next step, we will contact you to arrange a courtesy alumni phone interview.

Minimum requirements to reapply: All alumni must submit a current original criminal record check, current lesson plan, any new university transcripts and/or diplomas (i.e. master’s, post-graduate courses), and a new professional reference from a supervisor.

Please be aware that there are new certification and licensure regulations for the U.S. These regulations will determine the subjects and states you can be certified to teach in. These may differ from your last VIF teaching experience. VIF will notify you if this is the case.

If you are selected again for VIF participation, VIF will provide a special Alumni Arrival Orientation with sessions geared specifically for returning alumni. These sessions will give you an opportunity to acquaint yourself with new VIF and U.S. policies, meet new incoming educators and reunite with other returning alumni.

Please note that VIF keeps alumni files for only three years after the conclusion of a teacher ’s exchange. After individually reviewing your case, VIF will notify you of what documents we will require for you to participate again.
