What are the minimum requirements to participate in the VIF Program?

Do I have to pay a fee to participate in the VIF Program?
VIF does not charge fees to applicants at any time. There are some direct costs associated with the application documentation process which may include: fees to order transcripts and police background checks, U.S. visa fees, an Employment Authorization fee and US teacher licensing fees.
Does my degree/diploma meet the minimum requirement of a U.S. Bachelor's degree in education?
Applicants must have completed university-level courses and been awarded a teaching degree/diploma in education. The U.S. Department of Education has specific guidelines to determine if your degree in your home country is equivalent to a Bachelor of Education in the U.S. VIF representatives will review your application to determine your eligibility.
I have taught previously but not during the past two years. Should I apply?
U.S. school districts are most likely to hire teachers with current or recent teaching experience and training. If you have not been teaching full time but have been involved in K-12 education in some other way (part time teaching, tutoring, etc.), we will review your application to fully evaluate your candidacy.
Am I eligible if my teaching experience is only with students over the age of 18?
The VIF Program exclusively places teachers in K-12 (elementary and secondary) U.S. schools, serving students aged 5-18. If your experience has only been with university level students, we will review your application to fully evaluate your candidacy.
Am I eligible if my teaching experience is in a different subject than my teaching degree/diploma?
Your eligibility is determined by several factors that vary by applicant. We will review your application to fully evaluate your candidacy.
How will my English language fluency be evaluated?
VIF evaluates applicants' English proficiency through telephone and personal interviews which are conducted in English. VIF applicants are not required to take an English exam (such as TOEFL).
